Group lands designation

Nevada Microenterprise Initiative has been designated a "Community Development Financial Institution" by the U.S. Treasury Department.
NMI's mission is to promote community development through small loans to businesses, particularly those owned by or serving low-and moderate-income residents. The nonprofit NMI has loaned more than $1.5 million to start-up and existing businesses since 1991.
NMI officials hope the recognition will attract new investment from financial institutions.
