LOS ANGELES -- Boeing Co., one of Southern California's largest private employers, plans to layoff about 1,000 people from its satellite manufacturing division because of the economic slowdown, it was reported today.
Sources told the Los Angeles Times the announcement is expected today at a company employee meeting. More layoffs could exceed 2,000 this year, sources said. A Boeing spokesman declined to comment Wednesday about the possible layoffs.
