Harrah’s, Penn National named as potential bidders

Harrah's Entertainment Inc., Penn National Gaming Corp. and at least one other casino company have entered final bids to acquire Hollywood Casino Corp., the Daily Deal publication reported today.

Preliminary indications of interest had previously come from Phoenix-based Aztar Corp., Alton, Ill-based Argosy Gaming Co. and Las Vegas-based Ameristar Casinos Inc., an undisclosed source told the Daily Deal.

Hollywood Casino's director of corporate marketing, Jim Wise, could not immediately be reached for comment.

Interest in the company and its prized asset, the new Hollywood Casino Aurora near Chicago, comes despite the prospect of a steep hike in gaming taxes that recently passed the Illinois Legislature.

Harrah's, the largest of the potential bidders, owns Illinois casinos in Joliet and Metropolis and a casino in Shreveport, La., neighboring a Hollywood property.
