Trial to begin for inmate accused of second Reno murder

RENO, Nev. - A man already serving a life prison term for the killing of a Reno woman faces trial this week for the slaying of a second victim.

Prosecutors say DNA evidence led to the latest charges against Daryl Linnie Mack.

Trial begins Tuesday for Mack, 43, who is accused of killing Betty Jane May in October 1988.

May, 55, was found strangled in her basement apartment.

District Attorney Dick Gammick said blood and semen samples were recovered from May's apartment, but it took criminologists 12 years to match the DNA to Mack.

Mack was sentenced to life in prison without parole for the 1994 killing of Kim Parks.

This time, he faces a possible death penalty if convicted.
