Las Vegas Area Fishing Report

Updated Nov. 1, 2002

NEVADA DIVISION OF WILDLIFE

Nevada Division of Wildlife (NDOW) creel census clerks report that fishing pressure dropped significantly this past week at Lake Mead because of the weather front that came through.

Boaters fishing the 33 Hole area, off Black Island continue to have good success for stripers that range from 1-3 pounds. Anglers report success by down rigging to about 65 feet.

Shore anglers are not having much success. A few anglers fishing the shore of Hemenway was successful landing stripers that were 1-3 pounds. Anchovies have been the most successful bait.

Rainbow trout success rate has dropped off following the NDOW weekly stocking. The fish tend to head for deep water following their release.

Cottonwood Cove anglers are still reporting good success for stripers that range 12-14 inches. Anchovies are landing the fish.

Trout fishermen are landing fish that average 8-9 inches in length. This is understandable in light of the recent large influx of stocked fish. A few trout in the range of 16-18 inches are also being landed. PowerBait is landing the fish.

Largemouth bass fishing continues to be rated as good. Anglers are still landing fish that are 11-12 inches in length. Water temperatures have dropped down into the upper 50s, so expect bass fishing success to taper off.

Daytime temperatures are in the low 60s, while nighttime temperatures are on the lower 20s.
