Letter: Marriage defined, not ‘protected’

The Oct. 8 issue of the Sun carried a letter to the editor by Angela O'Callaghan, who asked how Question 2 protects marriage.

As she correctly pointed out, it won't. What Question 2 does, however, is define marriage as between only a man and a woman.

To some it may seem silly to spend time and money on such a thing. After all, the institution of marriage, commonly known as the bonding of a man and woman, has been with us for thousands of years.

Recently, however, some have expressed dissatisfaction with the definition we all know and have sought to change the meaning of marriage to something it is not.

Those who see value in keeping natural order in society, and in preserving the sanctity of the marriage bond between a man and a woman, will support Question 2, even if it doesn't protect marriage.
