Community service added to Morris sentence

A real estate agent who pleaded guilty to causing a fatal accident while driving and talking on a cell phone will have 24 hours of community service added to her sentence.

District Judge Nancy Saitta on Monday added the condition to the sentence already given to Karen Morris, 35, after Morris was found to have violated her probation.

Morris had been placed on five years' probation and ordered to spend 26 weekends in jail after pleading guilty to three counts of felony reckless driving in the March 2001 collision that killed Leona Greif, 61, and Marcia Nathans, 65.

In June Saitta sentenced Morris to 30 days in the Clark County Detention Center for violating the terms of her probation after Morris was caught working out at a local gym.

The community service ordered by Saitta on Monday was in addition to the jail time, which Morris has finished serving. Saitta ruled the service can be done through her synagogue. No additional restitution was ordered, District Attorney Gary Booker said.

Morris also submitted a presentation about reckless driving and cellular phone use to be shown to high school teenagers and drivers education students.
