Loyola Marymount halts UNLV streak at 4 games

SUN STAFF AND WIRE REPORTS

Loyola Marymount shot 52.6 percent for the game and held off a late rally to post a 76-64 win against the UNLV women Monday night in Los Angeles. The Lady Rebels saw their four-game win streak end as they dropped to 5-2 on the season. It was LMU's school-record seventh consecutive win and improved its record to 7-1.

After a 3-pointer from Sheena Moore brought UNLV within four, 49-45 with 11:29 left, the Lady Rebels hit a scoring drought. They were outscored 10-2 over the next five minutes as the Lions built a 59-47 lead with a little more than six minutes left.

Just when it looked as though Loyola Marymount had the game in hand, UNLV ran off eight consecutive points on a Moore 3-pointer, a jumper from RanDee Henry, and a three-point play from Moore to again cut the lead to four, 59-55 with 4:59 to play. The Lions held strong however, responding by scoring nine of the next 10 points to put the game away.

Henry led all scorers with 29 points for the Lady Rebels on 11-of-17 shooting. She also added 10 rebounds for her third double-double of the season. Moore came off the bench after a six-game absence to set a career-high with 17 points.

The Lady Rebels return to action Friday against Texas San-Antonio at 7:30 p.m. in Cox Pavilion.
