Gaming interests donate to state Democrats

WASHINGTON -- Maryland Democrats received about $534,000 from gambling and horse racing interests, as companies pushed for the state to legalize slot machines and casinos, the Washington Post reported, citing records.

The Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee, an arm of the Democratic Party and headed by Maryland's Democratic Senate President Thomas Mike Miller, received the money, the newspaper said.

The Maryland-Virginia Racing Circuit Inc., a subsidiary of the Maryland Jockey Club, which is a unit of Magna Entertainment Corp., was the biggest donor, giving $200,000, the newspaper reported.
