Chairman denies cancellation of technology convention

Jupitermedia said today it's moving ahead with its plans to launch a rival technology convention in Las Vegas to compete with Comdex.

Alan Meckler, chairman of Jupitermedia, today denied a New York Times report quoting him as saying the show had been canceled. He said contract negotiations with the Mandalay Bay Convention Center have not been completed, but that the show is scheduled to be held at that venue Nov. 17-21.

"As far as we are concerned, we are committed," Meckler said. "We feel that everything is going to work out just fine."

Comdex is scheduled for Nov. 15-20 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

Jupitermedia, a technology research company, announced plans for the Computer Digital Expo in Las Vegas after Comdex producer Key3Media filed for bankruptcy protection following last year's Comdex show.

Mandalay Bay officials could not be reached for comment.
