Letter: Death penalty alternative

Why all the controversy about the death penalty? Think of all the money and time that would be saved if instead of the death sentence, he or she would get life in prison without parole. This would make all the passive people happy while still keeping the convicted off the streets. Also, I'm sure that life without parole is nothing to look forward to.
