Bankruptcy bill passes

WASHINGTON -- The House voted overwhelmingly on Wednesday to make it harder for people to eliminate their debts by filing for bankruptcy, heeding complaints from lenders and businesses that the system was being abused.
The bankruptcy measure has been circulating in Congress for years, and its fate in the Senate, where it has been caught up in an abortion debate, remains uncertain.
