UNLV in fourth at MWC tournament

The UNLV men's golf team is tied for fourth place after firing a one-under par 287 at the first round Thursday of the Mountain West Conference Championship at the Crosswater Course in Sunriver Ore.

The Rebels sit 11 strokes behind New Mexico for the team lead.

Individually, BYU's Ron Harvey, Jr. and San Diego State's Lars Johansson share the individual lead at five-under.

Leading the way for UNLV were sophomores Travis Whisman and JC Deacon. Both tied for ninth after carding a two-under 70 for the day.

Rounding out the Rebels' team total were senior Brien Davis, who shot an even-par 72, and sophomore Ryan Moore, who recorded a three-over 75. Ryan Keeney's 76 was discarded from the team total.

Second round play was scheduled for this morning at the par-72, 7,270-yard Crosswater Course.
