Bidder for Aladdin in London Clubs deal

The man who co-founded Planet Hollywood hopes to bring star power to a high-end London casino he is investing in with London Clubs International.

Robert Earl, a partner in OpBiz LLC, which is bidding for the Aladdin hotel-casino and would turn it into a Planet Hollywood-branded hotel, has formed a joint venture with London Clubs for 50 St James, one of 12 casinos London Clubs operates worldwide.

The Financial Times of London reported that Earl plans to reposition the casino and develop new dining and entertainment operations there.

Earl, who is making the investment through his privately held Celebrity Gaming group, said he hopes to broaden the appeal of 50 St James, a high-end casino in London's West End.

London Clubs' money-losing investment in the Aladdin in Las Vegas nearly caused the collapse of the company.

Separately, London Clubs also announced the sale of its Palm Beach casino to Stanley Leisure, Britain's largest casino operator with 40 clubs and 630 sports books, for $58.2 million (U.S.).
