Casino’s ejection of winning gamblers upheld

DETROIT -- Video poker players banned from a casino last year did nothing illegal that would have warranted their removal, according to casino regulators.

But Greektown Casino still has the right to bar anyone it wants from playing, the Michigan Gaming Control Board found in its recently completed investigation.

The casino removed video poker players in November 2002, because their winnings and mounting incentives made them unprofitable for the casino to host, The Detroit News reported last week.

Most of the nine filed complaints against Greektown with the board.

"Our investigation of the circumstances surrounding your exclusion found no evidence of any illegal activity on your part," the board stated in a letter. "We were unable to determine how your play of video poker was in any way outside the normal conduct of play."

But state law "gives the casino the right to exclude a person for reasons deemed necessary by the casino," the board wrote.
