Arturo L. Acosta

Arturo L. Acosta, 55, of North Las Vegas died Monday in a local hospital. He was born April 25, 1948, in Jalisco, Mexico. A resident for 32 years, he owned and operated a landscaping business.

He is survived by his wife, Rafaela; two sons, Arturo Acosta Jr. and Hugo Acosta, both of North Las Vegas; his mother, Matilda Lopez, and his father, Felix Acosta, both of Mexico; one sister, Virginia Hernandez of San Jose, Calif.; four brothers, David Acosta, Javier Acosta, Felix Acosta and Pedro Acosta, all of Las Vegas; and four grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 9 a.m.-7 p.m. Thursday in Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St. Services will be noon Friday in St. Christopher's Catholic Church, 1840 N. Bruce St. Burial will follow in Palm Valley View Memorial Park, 7600 S. Eastern Ave.

Nettie Anne Bookin

Nettie Anne Bookin, 94, of Las Vegas died Monday. A saleswoman, she was born Oct. 30, 1918, in New Jersey.

No local services are scheduled. Hites Funeral Services, 438 W. Sunset Road, Henderson, is handling arrangements.

Amanda M. Cardin

Amanda M. Cardin, 16, of Las Vegas died Sunday in a local hospital. She was born Dec. 22, 1986, in Fontana, Calif. A resident for 10 years, she was an office worker.

She is survived by her parents, Stephen E. and Wendy L. Cardin of Las Vegas; two sisters, Christine E. Zook of Fontana, and Nicole Lynn Cardin of Las Vegas; one brother, Christopher John Cardin, and her grandparents, John and Doris Karp and Jay and Brenda Cardin, all of Las Vegas.

Memorial services will be noon Thursday at Palm Mortuary, 7400 W. Cheyenne Ave.

Luis A. Cruz

Luis A. Cruz, 45, of Las Vegas died Sunday in Las Vegas. He was born April 9, 1958, in Santiago De Maria, El Salvador. A resident for 12 years, he was a gardener.

He is survived by his wife, Transito; three sons, Carlos Armando Cruz, Steban A. Cruz and Emmanuel Cruz, and two daughters, Maria A. Cruz and Joanne C. Cruz, all of Las Vegas; his mother, Maria De La Paz Cruz; three brothers, Carlos G. Cruz, Jose Hector Bermudez and Ricardo Armando Cruz; and three sisters, Maria Estrada, Maria De La Paz Pena and Ana Gladis Cruz.

Rosary was scheduled at 5 p.m. today in Bunkers Mortuary, 925 Las Vegas Blvd. North. Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Thursday in St. Christopher's Catholic Church, 1840 N. Bruce St. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery.

Floyd Gaston

Floyd Gaston, 67, of North Las Vegas died Sunday in North Las Vegas. He was born Aug. 6, 1935, in St. Louis. A resident for more than 30 years, he was a hotel kitchen supervisor.

He is survived by one son, Floyd Gaston Jr., and two daughters, Blanche Lennon and Geraldine Clark, all of St. Louis; three sisters, Mattie Hughes and Hattie Johnson, both of Las Vegas, and Evelyn Freeman of Los Angeles; 12 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 3-7 p.m. today at Bunkers Mortuary, 925 Las Vegas Blvd. North. Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Bunkers Chapel. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery.

Mahalia P. Gill

Mahalia P. Gill, 62, of Las Vegas died May 5 in Las Vegas. She was born March 27, 1941, in Pioneer, La. A resident for 43 years, she was a hotel guest room attendant.

She is survived by three daughters, Diana Gill and Alena Gill, both of North Las Vegas, and Betty Jackson of Las Vegas; one son, Lionel Jackson of Las Vegas; two brothers, Robert Knox of Fontana, Calif., and Majore Gill of Las Vegas; four sisters, Juanita Juniel, Dallena Young and Shelia Rachels, all of Las Vegas, and Elnora Knox of Pioneer, La.; and eight grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled noon-8 p.m. Thursday in American Burial and Cremation Services, 310 Foremaster Lane. Services will be 1 p.m. Friday in True Love Missionary Baptist Church, 1941 N. H St. Burial will follow in Paradise Memorial Gardens, 6200 S. Eastern Ave.

Brent M. Harden

Brent M. Harden, 50, of Las Vegas died Saturday in Las Vegas. He was born Dec. 21, 1952, in Honolulu. A resident for 48 years, he was a biomedicine technician, a paramedic, an investigator for the coroner's office, ran an insurance agency, was a member of the Masons, Scottish Rite, Zelzah Shrine, past master of Oasis 41 Lodge, past DeMolay Dad advisor, a 1970 Western High School graduate and all-state soccer goalie.

He is survived by his wife, Whitby N.; one son, Dennis Campton of Seattle; his mother, Louise M. Harden, one brother, Craig M. Harden, both of Las Vegas; and two grandchildren.

A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St. Palm Mortuary, 7400 W. Cheyenne Ave. handled arrangements.

Pauline Marie Howard, 55, of Las Vegas died Monday in a local hospice. She was born Oct. 29, 1947, in New York. A resident for 1 1/2 years, she was an office manager at a college.

She is survived by her mother, Concetta "Connie" Howard; and one sister, Rosemarie J. Howard.

Helen Renee Knapp

Helen Renee Knapp, 79, of Las Vegas died Monday in a local hospice. She was born April 9, 1924, in Long Beach, Calif. A resident for two years, she was a retired restaurateur.

She is survived by one daughter, Carolyn Perkins, and one son, James Q. Ready, both of Las Vegas; 12 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 10-11 a.m. Thursday in Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave. Graveside services will follow at 11 a.m. in Palm Valley View Memorial Park.

Nalani Kremer

Nalani Kremer, 44, of Las Vegas died Sunday in a local hospital. She was born Dec. 4, 1958, in Atascadero, Calif. A resident for 17 years, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by her husband, Bryan; one son, Calvin Cardwell of Olympia, Wash.; her mother, Sharon Smith of Bremerton Wash.; and two sisters, Janel Flores and Juliet Fassio, both of Union, Wash.

Peggy Eileen Nelson-Gonzalez, 40, of Las Vegas died Saturday in Las Vegas. She was born Sept. 25, 1962, in East Meadow, N.Y. A resident for 17 years, she was an insurance company supervisor.

She is survived by her husband, Jose; two brothers, James Nelson of Henderson and William Nelson of Maui, Hawaii; and one sister, Barbara Nelson of Las Vegas.

A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Friday in Davis Funeral Home, 2127 W. Charleston Blvd. Burial will be private.

Guy D. Parlette

Guy D. Parlette, 57, of Las Vegas died Monday in Las Vegas. He was born Jan. 24, 1946, in San Francisco. A resident for nine years, he was a truck driver and a Marine Corps veteran.

He is survived by one sister, Sally Wipf, and two nephews, Mike Erb and Mark Wipf, all of Tacoma, Wash.

Charlotte L. Ramos, 73, of Las Vegas died Saturday in a local hospital. She was born Feb. 15, 1930, in Merriville, Ind. A resident for 13 years, she was a retired supervisor of a janitorial company.

She is survived by one daughter, Maria Diaz of Merriville; one sister, Theresa Schmidt of Florida; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Louise A. Robertson

Louise A. Robertson, 81, of Las Vegas died Sunday in a local hospital. She was born Nov. 14, 1921, in Minden, La. A resident for 56 years, she was a retired keno writer, a member of the Elks and a trustee at Zion Methodist Church.

She is survived by her husband, Joe Lee Sr.; one daughter, Sheila Robertson of Las Vegas, and two sons, Joe Robertson Jr. of Haughton, La., and Kevin Robertson of Las Vegas; three sisters, Verna Washington and Martha O'Neal, both of Los Angeles, and Erma Wells of San Francisco; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Pearl J. Smith

Pearl J. Smith, 70, of Las Vegas died Monday in Las Vegas. She was born Jan. 16, 1933, in Illinois. A resident for six years, she was a retired accounting firm administrator.

She is survived by two sons, Charles Bryson and Arlo Smith; two daughters, Priscilla Lane and Denise Bell; one brother, Joe Tillman; one sister, Carolyn Graham; and 12 grandchildren.

Stanley 'Neal Stanley' Shier

Stanley "Neal Stanley" Shier, 81, of Las Vegas died Monday in Las Vegas. He was born Jan. 11, 1922, in New York City. A resident for 13 years, he was a retired stage, radio and television entertainer. He served in the USO after World War II entertaining troops and veterans in military hospitals in the South Pacific and Korea. He toured with big bands and performed at resorts and theaters in the 1940s and '50s.

He is survived by his wife, Kaye; two sons, Barry A. Shier of Las Vegas and David N. Shier of Ann Arbor, Mich.; and two grandchildren.

Paul A. Thompson, 84, of Las Vegas died Monday in Las Vegas. He was born Oct. 17, 1918, in New York. A resident for 25 years, he was a production specialist for General Electric and an Army veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Marjorie G.; two sons, Doug Thompson and Russell Thompson; three grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Tillio Verso, 75, of North Las Vegas died Monday in North Las Vegas. He was born Dec. 27, 1927, in Brooklyn, N.Y. A resident for 17 years, he was a retired factory machinist and Korean War Army veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Frances; one daughter, Camille Moran of Las Vegas; three sons, Gregory Verso and Michael Verso, both of Las Vegas, and Philip Verso of New York; one sister, Dolly Degaetano of Tampa, Fla.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Leroy Welch III, 51, of Las Vegas died May 8 in Las Vegas. He was born Nov. 14, 1952, in Indianapolis. A resident for 21 years, he was an electrician and an Air Force veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Raeneda; one son Leroy Davis Welch IV of California; one daughter, Kimberly Viola; his mother, Delores Stone of Indianapolis; one sister, Michelle Rockets of San Jose, Calif.; and two grandchildren.
