Rhythm & Ribs

Clark County Parks and Community Services will hold its annual "Rhythm & Ribs" Festival from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Sunset Park, 2601 E. Sunset Road. Tickets are $10 advance and $15 the day of the event. 474-4000.

'Urban Artists'

The Las Vegas-Clark County Library District hosts "Urban Artists," an ongoing communal arts presentation of poetry, spoken word, rhymes and dramatic readings, at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the West Las Vegas Library, 951 W. Lake Mead Blvd. 507-3989.

Asian Festival

Lake Las Vegas hosts an Asian Festival from today to Sunday. The festival will include Dragon Boat races, various performers and a craft tent for Asian art demonstrations. 992-7337.

Movie series

The Clark County Parks and Community Services Department presents the "Starlight Movie Series," which begins at 8:30 p.m. today at Duck Creek Park at the intersection of Maryland Parkway and Pebble Road. Bring picnic baskets and blankets. No pets or alcohol allowed. Call 455-8278 for upcoming titles.

Desert awareness

The Nevada State Parks Department sponsors "Desert Awareness" at 10 a.m. Saturday at Spring Mountain Ranch State Park, located 15 miles west of Las Vegas in the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area. Admission is free. 875-4141.

Hike

The Nevada State Parks Department offers a three-hour, moderate-to-strenuous hike from 9 a.m. to noon Sunday through Sandstone Canyon at Spring Mountain Ranch State Park. Bring water and/or snacks. No pets please, and small children are not advised. 875-4141.

Film festival

The Las Vegas-Clark County Library District presents the Asian CineVision's touring film festival at 6 p.m. Saturday at the West Charleston Library, 6301 W. Charleston Blvd. 507-3940.

Lecture

Nationally syndicated columnist and political analyst Charles Krauthammer will speak at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Temple Beth Sholom, 10700 Havenwood Lane. Admission is free. 804-1333.

Scout Expo

The City of Las Vegas presents Scout Expo from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at Lorenzi Park, 3343 Washington Ave. The event, which features more than 100 exhibits, demonstrations and activity booths, costs $4 per family. 968-8133.

Trade show

The Home Improvement and Decorating Show will be held from noon to 8 p.m. today, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at Cashman Center. Tickets are $5 per day general, $4 for seniors and free to those 18 years and under with paid adult. 883-9665.

Art competition

The Clark County Parks and Community Services' Cultural Division is now accepting samples of work for the fifth annual E. Pluribus Artis invitational exhibit, to be held from June 23 to Aug. 9 in the rotunda of the Clark County Government Center. Writing contest

Scripts are being accepted for the 16th Annual Nevada Film Office Screenplay Competition until June 30. Prizes include cash awards, a press conference/ luncheon with the lieutenant governor of the state, gifts and promotion of the top three winning scripts to producers and production companies in Hollywood.
