Mel Berkowitz

Mel Berkowitz, 79, of Henderson died Thursday in a local hospice. He was born April 18, 1924, in the Bronx, N.Y. A resident for 22 years, he owned and operated a uniform company and was a World War II Army veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia; one daughter, Ellen Keating of Las Vegas; one son, Brian Berkowitz of Henderson; one sister, Enid Scharzbaum of North Woodmere, N.Y.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Visitation is private. Graveside services will follow at 1 p.m. Sunday in Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave. King David Memorial Chapel and Cemetery, 2697 Eldorado Lane, is handling arrangements.

Robert Elmer Brown III

Robert Elmer Brown III, 67, of Las Vegas died May 9 in Las Vegas. He was born Dec. 1, 1935, in Los Angeles. A resident for one year, he was a railroad clerk.

He is survived by three sons, Isaac Brown, Isaiah Brown and Mark Brown; two daughters, Sarai Brown and Kimberly Brown-Whitlock; and four grandchildren.

Darlene Cronkhite

Darlene Cronkhite, 69, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in a local hospital. She was born Oct. 14, 1933, in San Francisco. A resident for 11 years, she was a retired secretary for a manufacturing company.

She is survived by her husband, Vern; four daughters, Kimberly Jacobs of Illinois and Elaine Fagin, Coby Abbott and Elizabeth Cronkhite, all of Nevada; one son, Stuart Cronkhite of Illinois; one sister, Patricia Yoes of California; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Liza D. Desmarais-Boeckholt

Liza D. Desmarais-Boeckholt, 38, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in a local hospital. A hotel cocktail waitress, she was born Dec. 3, 1964, in San Francisco.

She is survived by one daughter, Megan Boeckholt, and her parents, Germaine and Gilbert Desmariais, all of Las Vegas; and one sister, Caroline Litz of Sacramento.

Services will be 9 a.m. Monday in St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 1811 Pueblo Vista Drive. Burial will follow in Palm Memorial Park, Northwest, 6701 N. Jones Blvd. Affordable Cremation and Burial Service, 2457 N. Decatur Blvd., is handling arrangements.

Daniel G. DiPonzio

Daniel G. DiPonzio, 43, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in Las Vegas. He was born June 22, 1959, in Canada. A resident for nine years, he was a mason in the construction industry and an Army veteran.

He is survived by his parents, Robert and Patricia; and one sister, Michelle of Georgia.

A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday in St. Thomas Catholic Church, 6010 Smoke Ranch Road. Desert Memorial Cremation and Burial Society, 1111 Las Vegas Blvd. North, is handling arrangements.

John Joseph 'Jack' Dupee

John Joseph "Jack" Dupee, 65, of Las Vegas died May 5 in Las Vegas. He was born July 23, 1937, in New York. A resident for 14 years, he was a retired Greyhound bus dispatcher and a member of the American Legion.

He is survived by two brothers, Thomas Dupee and James Dupee; and four sisters, Margaret Rae, Mary Constance Hillenbrand, Rosemary Jones and Cathleen Britschge.

No local services are scheduled. Burial will be in Syracuse, N.Y. Desert Memorial Cremation and Burial Society, 1111 Las Vegas Blvd. North, is handling arrangements.

Cecil Fortenbury

Cecil Fortenbury, 80, of Henderson died Thursday in a local hospital. He was born Nov. 25, 1922, in Morganton, N.C. A resident for 28 years, he was a retired utility company lineman, a World War II Army veteran and a member of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.

He is survived by one daughter, Ginger K. Fortenbury of Ellenboro, N.C.; one son, Randal Fortenbury of Henderson; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be 3 p.m. Saturday in Palm Mortuary, 800 S. Boulder Highway, Henderson.

Stella Frances Geiger

Stella Frances Geiger, 77, of North Las Vegas died Wednesday in a local hospital. She was born Jan. 15, 1926, in Covington, Ky. A resident for 12 years, she was a retired hospital secretary.

She is survived by two sons, James Geiger and Chris Geiger, both of Las Vegas; one daughter, Linda Massie of Albuquerque; two sisters, Mary Storer and Joan Miller, both of Covington; and two grandchildren.

Helen Hall

Helen Hall, 81, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in a local hospital. She was born April 15, 1922, in Wyalusing, Pa. A resident for 35 years, she owned and operated a video production company, was a member of the Navy League and wife of professional musician Roger Hall.

She is survived by her husband, Roger; two sons, William Schwem of Valencia, Calif., and Kurt Schwem of Pleasanton, Calif.; one sister, Frances Clark of Las Cruces, N.M.; and four grandchildren.

A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Sunday in Palm Mortuary, 7400 W. Cheyenne Ave.

M.C. McDermott

M.C. McDermott, 56, of Henderson died Wednesday in a local health care center. He was born Aug. 22, 1946, in Bridgeport, Conn. A resident for two years, he was a retired restaurant vice president.

He is survived by his wife, Karen; one son, Michael McDermott of Jacksonville, Fla.; two daughters, Tiffany Corona and Angela Corona, both of Fremont, Calif.; his mother, Gladys Macmeeken of Gastonia, N.C.; and one sister, Cheri Hurt of Williston, Fla.

Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday in Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave. Burial will follow in Palm Valley View Memorial Park.

Robert Charles Robbins, 68, of Las Vegas died Saturday in a local health care center. He was born March 21, 1935, in Los Angeles. A resident for 17 years, he was a retired airline pilot and a Vietnam War veteran and member of the California Air National Guard.

He is survived by one daughter, Julie Robbins, and three sons, William Robbins, Jack Robbins and Robert Robbins Jr., all of Las Vegas; one brother, Charles Robbins Jr. of Yakima, Wash.; and five grandchildren.

A memorial service was Thursday in Christ the King Catholic Church, 4925 S. Torrey Pines Drive.

Lonney Rodgers

Lonney Rodgers, 64, of Las Vegas died Thursday in Las Vegas. He was born Dec. 18, 1938, in Tiffin, Ohio. A resident for 19 years, he was a retired building maintenance supervisor for Sun City Summerlin's community association, a Vietnam War Coast Guard veteran who served for 24 years.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara; one daughter, Cheryl Szeles of Las Vegas; one sister, Jeanne Barboa of Ohio; and two grandchildren.

A memorial service will be 11:20 a.m. Friday in Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Boulder City. Neptune Society of Nevada, 8570 Del Webb Blvd., is handling arrangements.

Vandeline Thomerson

Vandeline Thomerson, 78, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in a local hospital. She was born Oct. 20, 1924, in Benton Harbor, Mich. A resident for 21 years, she was a retired hospital licensed vocational nurse.

She is survived by two daughters, Eva Eaton of West Covina, Calif., and Mollie Kiley of Henderson; one sister, Ruth Geisler of Dayton, Ohio; two brothers, Daniel R. Manthe of Detroit and Cornelius Manthe of Falls Church, Va.; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Virginia 'Ginger' Waldhauser

Virginia "Ginger" Waldhauser, 56, of Pahrump died Wednesday in a local hospital. She was born Dec. 30, 1946, in San Diego. A resident for 15 years, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by her husband, Ray; one daughter, Veronica Stephens, and one son, William Ritzmand, both of Lemon Grove, Calif.

Visitation is scheduled 10 a.m.-noon Tuesday in Palm Mortuary, 1600 S. Jones Blvd. Graveside services will follow at 1:20 p.m. Tuesday in Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Boulder City.

Joyce A. Wilson, 64, of Las Vegas died Wednesday in a local hospital. She was born Aug. 29, 1938, in Paris, Ill. A resident for 24 years, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by her husband, Larry; two daughters, Terri Jo Yeadon of Lebanon, Ky., and Robin K. Bender of Las Vegas; one son, Anthony E. Wilson of Las Vegas; one sister, Joy Gardner of Avon, Ind.; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

A memorial service will be 1 p.m. Sunday in Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St.
