Vegas panel OKs massage rules

New requirements for massage establishments got the green light Monday from the Las Vegas City Council's Recommending Committee.

The city is proposing that massage establishments be required to obtain a special use permit in commercial areas. They would also have to be on a secondary thoroughfare or larger and would not be allowed within 400 feet of any church, synagogue, school, city park, child care facility or parcel zoned for residential use. A distance of 1,000 feet would be required between massage establishments, and hours would only be between 8 a.m. and 9 p.m.

The item was unanimously pushed forward by the committee, consisting of Councilmen Michael Mack and Lawrence Weekly, and will get City Council consideration June 4.
