Letter: Economy should be put in context

This is in reference to the Nov. 3 letter by Gail Munford, who complained about the economy. Obviously, the letter writer must be a kid right out of high school who has never seen a bad economy.

The writer should have been around looking for a job from 1947 until 1987, when the stock market was at 2000, interest rates were at 8 percent at their lowest and unemployment was 8 percent.

Every other car on the road was a worn-out clunker. Today every other car is a $40,000 SUV and there are no clunkers at all.

Gas prices varied, but averaged, say, 50 cents a gallon. But who had 50 cents?
