Airline swings to profit

PHOENIX -- The parent company of America West Airlines swung to profitability in the third quarter, with earnings of $32.9 million, or 60 cents per share. It was the second-straight quarterly profit for the nation's eighth largest carrier and beat Wall Street expectations.
In the same period last year, America West Holdings Corp. lost $49.6 million or $1.47 per share. Operating revenue for the most recent quarter rose 14 percent from a year ago to $581.6 million.
