Automaker posts loss

FRANKFURT, Germany -- DaimlerChrysler posted a loss of euro1.65 billion ($1.92 billion) in the third quarter as it took a huge write-off on its stake in European aerospace company EADS. Its operating profit fell 19 percent.
The loss reported today contrasted with a profit of euro780 million in the same quarter a year earlier. Sales fell to euro34.6 billion ($40.2 billion) from euro36.3 billion a year ago.
