Man impaled in car crash

A 25-year-old Las Vegas man was seriously injured today when a fence post he struck came through the rear window of his vehicle and impaled him, Metro Police said.

Andre Kelly was taken to the University Medical Center following the accident about 2:15 a.m. in the 1700 block of Ferrell Street, near Vegas and Rancho drives. Police said he was in serious condition.

Kelly was driving his 1999 Isuzu sport utility vehicle southbound on Ferrell when he stopped in the middle of the road, put his SUV in reverse and accelerated, police said.

The vehicle went out of control, jumped a curb, drove through a chain link fence and two yards, hit a support post for a carport and collided with a car parked under the carport, police said.
