Flat-proof tire concept advances

Boulder City-based Amerityre Corp. said Friday its polyurethane automobile tires have passed independent laboratory indicating compliance with certain Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards.

The company said the performance of its flat-proof tire is the first credibility threshold the product must cross in efforts to begin commercial production. The test examines strength, endurance, high-speed performance and load rating.

Company Chief Executive Richard Steinke warned, however, that the federal standards will change in 2007 and additional testing will be required. He indicated, however, that the company was confident that the new standards will be met.

Amerityre manufactures flat-free polyurethane tires for bicycles and scooters, golf carts, lawn and garden products, wheelbarrows and handtrucks and other specialty products.

The company also makes specialty tires for custom applications such as wheelchairs, thrill rides and snow removal equipment.

The company was founded in 1995 as American Tire Corp. Its most recent Securities and Exchange Commission documents said the company had 26 employees.
