Man killed execution-style

A 40-year-old North Las Vegas man died after he was shot execution-style Sunday night in an apartment at 3417 E. Cheyenne Ave., North Las Vegas police said.

Several suspects forced Lawrence Jenkins and two other men to disrobe about 8:30 p.m., and then the suspects bound their hands behind their backs, Officer Justin Roberts said. About 45 minutes later the victims heard the suspects discussing whom they should kill.

"The suspects came in the room and one of them said, 'Kill these two and leave this one alone,' " Roberts said.

Jenkins and another man were shot in the back of the neck. Jenkins died the next day at University Medical Center. The other victim is hospitalized.

No arrests have been made. Police believe the shooting was drug-related.

Beers to consult on new taxes

Assemblyman Bob Beers, one of the leaders in the fight against the payroll tax in the 2003 Legislature, is now going to advise private companies on paying the tax.

Payroll Solutions Inc. of North Las Vegas, announced Monday it has hired Beers, R-Las Vegas, as vice president of sales.

The company offers services to medium and small companies on "the labyrinth of state and federal payroll laws, and payroll tax administration," Howard Winters, the chief executive officer of Payroll Solutions, said .

The Legislature imposed a 0.65 percent tax on payroll with the first payment due by the end of this month. Businesses can deduct their employee health insurance expenses.

Beers, a certified public accountant, was the managing owner of a computer accounting system company Wilson, Beers & Alu for 13 years.

The three-term assemblyman has announced his intention to run for the state Senate in this year's election.
