Chicken Ranch brothel in Pahrump is for sale

The owners of the Chicken Ranch brothel in Pahrump hope to sell the business for $6.95 million.

Investors in the Chicken Ranch include Western Best Ltd. and its managing partner, Kenneth Green, said Bob Fisher, a spokesman for the brothel. Fisher today said Western Best is selling the property located on 40 acres, an hour away from Las Vegas, because the owners are ready to move on.

Outside of Southern Nevada the Chicken Ranch name is perhaps best known from the theatrical production and movie "The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas." The brothel was founded in La Grange, Texas, in 1844. In the 1970s, the Chicken Ranch was run out of Texas, where prostitution is illegal, and opened in Nevada, where prostitution is legal in most counties.

Western Best has owned the Chicken Ranch since 1982. The business now employs about 30 prostitutes.

As for the reason for the sale, Fisher said, "There's nothing sinister. They've run it over the years and he's (Green) older now and he's fought a lot of battles with it. He's tried to do some things with it and ran into some roadblocks." The $6.95 million sale price includes the Chicken Ranch trade name, trademarks and copyrights, theatrical contract licensing agreements, royalties and Web sites.
