Children's Festival on tap Saturday

The Children's Festival will be 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday at Winchester Cultural Center and Park, 3130 S. McLeod Drive.

The festival combines recreational and cultural activities to entertain and educate children of all ages. The event will feature energetic performances by the youth hip-hop group Star Catchers, and the singing and dancing Showbiz Kids, a crowing contest, clowns, "Drums of the World," skate board demonstrations, craft workshops, carnival-style games and prizes.

The event is free, and is sponsored by Clark County Parks and Community Services. Call 455-7340.

Karate students to help MD patient

The sixth annual Karate-for-Kids Break-a-thon will be Wednesday at Tower Records inside the WOW Superstore, 4580 W. Sahara Ave., to raise money to find a cure for muscular dystrophy.

Students from seven ATA karate schools will break boards from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. to raise money for 8-year-old karate student Joshua Camperi, who was diagnosed with muscular dystrophy.

KOMP 92.3-FM will broadcast from 6 a.m. to midnight. Call 822-6920.

CCSN to host science, business expo

A free business and science expo will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 16 at Community College of Southern Nevada, 3200 E. Cheyenne Ave.

The expo will feature displays, interactive exhibits, student demonstrations lab tours to showcase high-tech education and training programs, food booths, music and entertainment.

The event will promote opportunities for students to learn and train on high-tech, state-of-the-art equipment and discover high-demand education to achieve high-skill, high-wage careers.

The event is free and open to the public. Call 651-4985.

Youths are urged to volunteer

A city beautification project will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 16 at Heritage Park to encourage all Las Vegas youth to serve their community on National Youth Service Day April 15 to 17.

The event is the largest youth service event in the world when millions of youth design and lead service-learning projects to improve their communities.

The event is sponsored by the Southern Nevada National Youth Service Day Coalition, which provides resources to groups and individuals to help them deliver creative solutions to community problems through volunteerism. Call 892-2321.

The entire family is welcome to the Outdoor Olympics

10:30 a.m. Saturday at the North Las Vegas Library, 2300 Civic Center Drive, North Las Vegas. Participants will learn about the resources that can be found at the library for fun activity ideas, outdoor games will follow. Call 633-1070.

A lamb roast buffet

will be offered from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at Our Lady of Wisdom Church, 2120 Lindell Road. Pre-ordered tickets are $30; $50 at the door. Call 873-5101.

Kids' Co-op Pre-School

and Kindergarten will hold its 18th annual Silent Auction and Fundraiser 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Friday at Harley-Davidson Cafe, 3725 Las Vegas Blvd. South., to benefit the school.

To celebrate its 35th anniversary, HELP

of Southern Nevada will hold a silent auction and cocktail reception 6 p.m. Saturday at the Bourbon Street Market in the Orleans, with proceeds benefiting the organization. Guests will also enjoy a variety of performers, followed by a traditional New Orleans style dinner. Tickets are $200. Call 369-4357.
