New D gates set to open today

The northeast wing of McCarran International Airport's D gates opened for passenger traffic today, airport officials said.

The move adds 11 gates to the concourse, but the airport is netting only 10 new gates because of the loss of one in the B area due to construction of a baggage security facility.

The D gates are home primarily to airlines with long-haul flights. Continental, JetBlue and Alaska airlines are joining Delta, Song, United, Ted, US Air, Frontier, American and Northwest airlines in the D gates.

In addition to the new gates, the airport is adding a 160-foot ramp control tower in the building.

New concessions in the wing include Wolfgang Puck's Express, Starbucks and Hudson News, with Chili's Too and Bijoux Terner joining the mix in future months.
