Sprint to give teachers supplies

Sprint will give away more than $330,000 worth of school supplies Saturday to Clark County School District teachers.

The bags contain pens, three-ring binders, notebooks, markers and folders along with reference CD's donated by Encyclopedia Brittanica. Additional supplies were provided by Staples.

Sprint partnered with Opportunity Village -- which provides job training and employment to mentally disabled individuals in Southern Nevada -- to assemble the gift bags.

Teachers are invited to visit the Sprint store at 330 S. Valley View Blvd. Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. To receive the gift bags teachers must show their district-issued ID badge.

Drivers, guards are still needed

Bus drivers and crossing guards are still needed to help students get to school safely when the new academic year begins Aug. 29.

The Clark County School District requires its bus drivers to be at least 21 years of age. Pay starts at $13.73 per hour. For information about bus driver vacancies contact the School District Transportation Department at 855-5489.

With seven new elementary schools opening, Metro Police needs at least 25 additional crossing guards. Crossing guards are paid about $17 a day for a one-hour shift in the morning and a one-hour shift in the afternoon. For more information about crossing guard opportunities, contact Helen Lawhon at 229-3446.
