Letter: Hills are alive — with sound of construction

Regarding the Las Vegas Sun's Dec. 11 story, "From atop the hill, the 'right to a view' -- Residents fight plan for nearby RV and ministorage facility":

The beauty of the desert lies in the hills. The hills that surround our valley are ever changing with dancing shadows. The view changes with every glance, from deep grays and purples to intense gold that bids the sun good night.

It's hard not to sense the spirituality they inspire. They ground the flashing neon of the valley floor and put our being into perspective. Would that all respected their presence.

But, in search of the "best" view, the wealthy have purchased the hills. The sun now arises to steam shovels teetering on the highest horizon against the sky.

Rich MacDonald, manager of the company that developed MacDonald Highlands, states that these people "... have spent a lot of money to create a nice lifestyle" that "... shouldn't be trashed up with a ministorage facility ..."

While I am personally opposed to a zoning change that would allow a storage facility in the neighborhood, many would say that the nice lifestyle of the wealthy has trashed the hills for the entire valley.
