Canadian airline to offer nonstop service at McCarran

Calgary-based WestJet will begin offering nonstop service between McCarran International Airport and the Canadian cities of Toronto, Winnipeg, Edmonton, Calgary and Kelowna, British Columbia beginning Sept. 8. The airline previously ran charter service between Las Vegas and Canada.

WestJet, marketed as a low-cost airline, began operations in February 1996 serving five destinations in Western Canada and now offers scheduled service across 34 cities in North America.

"For years Canadians have been traveling to Vegas in droves to experience the fun, friendly atmosphere that characterizes this famous city," WestJet Executive Vice President of Marketing and Sales Sean Durfy said in a statement. "Today WestJet wants to return the favor and is extending an invitation to the residents of Vegas to visit Canada."
