Man shot, killed at apartments

A man was shot and killed this morning at an apartment complex on Twain Avenue near Swenson Street, Metro Police said.

Police were called to the Apple Apartments at 764 E. Twain just after 1 a.m. after someone in the area called 911 reporting the sound of gunshots, police said.

The victim was found dead of an apparent gunshot wound at the bottom of a staircase, Sgt. Ken Hefner said. His name was not released as of this morning.

Detectives could find no apparent obvious motive for the homicide, he said.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 229-3521 or Crime Stoppers at 385-5555.

Access road will be closed

The access road serving the Venetian and Harrah's off Koval Lane will be closed to the public and employees today because work crews will be working on a sewer line, Clark County stated on Wednesday.

Only emergency response vehicles will be able to use the road.

Clark County Water Reclamation District crews will be repairing the sewer line through Thursday, according to the county.

The county suggested accessing the resorts via Las Vegas Boulevard or Winnick Avenue.

Heavy dam traffic expected

Hoover Dam officials are warning motorists to expect heavy traffic and delays as they cross the dam Friday through Monday.

The Bureau of Reclamation recommends drivers cross the dam outside of peak hours, which are generally 10 a.m. to 5 p.m..

Vehicle restrictions on the dam remain in effect. Commercial trucks, buses with luggage, and trailers longer that 26.5 feet are not allowed on the dam. Rental trucks, recreational vehicles, boats and trailers, and pickup trucks with camper shells will be inspected before permitted on the dam.

All other vehicles may also be subject to inspection. Speed limits of 15 miles per hour approaching the dam will be strictly enforced.
