Letter: Quick fixes aren’t always the best fit

While I understand the Southern Nevada Water Authority's commitment to securing additional water for Southern Nevada, I must admit its plans worry me greatly. We Americans are always too eager to accept quick fixes for our problems, only to learn later that we have created more problems than we anticipated.

Not only will a pipeline to bring water from rural counties cost an estimated $2 billion to $6 billion, have we considered what effects this will have on rural counties as well as neighboring states, Utah in particular? We take their water, dry up agriculture, and destroy habitat for wildlife where the pipeline is built.

We should not proceed with such a drastic and expensive plan until we have exhausted every other alternative, especially increased conservation.
