Woman arrested in mom’s death

Metro Police arrested a 38-year-old woman this morning at a fast food restaurant on Sahara Avenue and Valley View Boulevard who allegedly suffocated her mother to death hours earlier.

Metro Police arrested Janet Rogers at about 8 a.m. Rogers is accused of suffocating her mother, who was sleeping in apartment on the 2600 block of Wyandotte Street with her 59-year-old daughter.

Rogers will be booked in the Clark County Detention Center and will be charged with murder, according to Metro.

Police did not identify the victim and the Clark County Coroner's office this morning had not identified her yet.

The 77-year-old and her 59-year-old daughter were sleeping in their apartment when they heard a window break at about 3:45 a.m., Metro stated. They saw a woman climb through a window and recognized her as the elder woman's other daughter.

While the 59-year-old daughter ran to a nearby apartment to get help, Rogers allegedly suffocated her mother, Metro said.

No motive was available yet for the alleged killing, Metro police said.
