Letter: Baby Boomer burden must be addressed

The supposed financial burden the Baby Boomers are going to create when their retirements begin should be alarming to people of all ages.

The Social Security system is something like 70 years old. When first implemented the full retirement age of 65 was established. At that time the average life span was 15 to 20 years less than it is today. Shouldn't this increased life span be taken into account and perhaps gradually increase the full retirement age to 70 years from the 67 years now in place?

Also, how about taking the cap off the amount of which FICA is charged. I know this issue is highly controversial, however in tough times tough action must be taken.

These two proposed amendments would certainly reduce the pending burden dramatically.
