Letter: Luxury tax could pay for universal care

According to Mother Jones magazine, 60 percent of U.S. companies pay no income tax. If we took them off welfare and made them pay taxes like the rest of us, we could afford "socialized medicine" for everyone that now only hypocritical Republicans bemoan but gladly accept and enjoy.

Why is "socialized medicine" good for Congress but bad for the rest of us? If more money is needed, bring back the luxury tax on yachts, planes, jewelry, furs and the likes of Rolls Royces. A 10 percent surtax would be pocket change for the elite.

Sure they would emit pitiful moans, but while holding fast to their toys.
