Letter: Spreading freedom via military might ?

I read the column by David Brooks in the Feb. 3 Las Vegas Sun and I was struck by the wonderful sentences he makes in reference to the enormous power the United States has always exercised as much as it could, to wit: "It (The United States) has always coupled that power with efforts to spread freedom." My response was: Huh?
