Letter: Cheney is the one who should be on trial
Friday, Feb. 9, 2007 | 7:10 a.m.
Scooter Libby is on trial for lying to a grand jury about the outing of a CIA agent. Testimony continues to indicate that his reason for lying was to protect his former boss, Vice President Dick Cheney.
If your preferred reading list doesn't include lots of fantasy or right-wing propaganda, you can surmise that Cheney had Libby, and others, exposed former CIA agent Valerie Plame Wilson's identity after her husband, Joseph Wilson, debunked the "intelligence report" the Bush administration used to dupe America into going to war in Iraq. Wasn't it bad enough that the vice president of the Dark Side conned the unwitting president with his mushroom cloud scenario? No.
Cheney's juvenile act of revenge against former Ambassador Wilson deflated the morale of thousands of America's intelligence agents who now realize their undercover status is subject to being exposed for political purposes by a vengeful administration. The vice president's actions border on treason.
Get Scooter Libby out of the courtroom and get the real culprit for America's failed policies, Dick Cheney, on the witness stand.
