flashpoint:

The battle to save the oppressed coal industry is on

The battle to save the poor, oppressed coal industry is on and it is dividing the Nevada delegation as never before. Sen. John Ensign is scheduled to have a news conference today to discuss extending clean energy tax incentives, even as he has been lobbying the Bush administration to help Sierra Pacific Resources accelerate its plans for the Ely Energy Center. Meanwhile Sen. Harry Reid, who has said it will be a coal day in hell before any more coal plants are built, continues to fight the project and create national political fodder for the Democrats. Could coal finally be the end of the great Harry Ensign era in Nevada politics? Are the winds of change upon us? Will the sun shine on a new day in that relationship? Or is that partnership ever-renewable?
