‘Suits’ responsible for Vegas’ woes

Regarding Liz Benston’s Monday story, “Tourism juggernaut shows signs of slowing”:

Our city was once recession-proof. What happened was that too many “suits” who don’t have a clue have the jobs that the pros used to have.

Hughes was the first gaming corporation to come to town, but Hughes’ top echelon did not deal with the day-to-day operations, the pros did. Take the power of casino operations away from the certified public accountants and the legal folks and put it back with the executive casino hosts and the casino executives of the ’60s, ’70s and ’80s, if you can find them.

Pay them more than Social Security and they will bring the city back once again to being recession-proof. As a former executive casino host, I know it was the players who used to come that made the city recession-proof. The players are still out there, and the pros know where they are.
