So it turns out that Henderson Mayor Jim Gibson has been elevated to a prestigious post in the LDS church called an Area Seventy that is defined thusly on the church’s Web site: “Area Seventies give part-time voluntary Church service within their assigned geographic areas and support area presidencies in international areas.” This is impressive for Gibson, listed as one of only 38 “called” to the position. Now I know the church never gets involved in politics, and I know all about that separation. But can’t we relax that prohibition, Mayor? There is one Mormon in Nevada you might be able to help with. Can’t you banish Gov. Jim Gibbons, the state’s highest-ranking LDS official, to Utah? Sometimes the line needs to be blurred for the good of all ...
