Letter to the editor:

Protesters dishonor Olympic tradition

It used to be that it was a great honor for an athlete to be chosen to carry the Olympic torch. I remember watching with emotion as Muhammad Ali took the torch to the top of the tower and lit the flame in Atlanta.

But now people are trying to make a futile protest (the Chinese government won’t change its policies because of some idiots protesting), and the honor of carrying the torch has been reduced to a task that is life-threatening to the honored athlete.

How proud those protesters must be, dishonoring their own Olympic athletes, and even putting them in danger.

But the human rights abuses will go on, even if the honor of carrying the torch is besmirched.
