Letter to the editor:

Age is a highly individual thing

I would take issue with Richard J. Munday’s Saturday letter about Sen. John McCain, headlined “Early 70s is old by any standard.” Age is just a number and doesn’t relate to a person’s health or ability.

Take, for example, Kirk Kerkorian, principal stockholder of MGM Mirage, etc. At 90, he doesn’t appear to be slowing down one bit, still putting together multibillion-dollar transactions.

So, what’s the big deal about 72?

I am turning 80 in a few months and have none of the symptoms Mr. Mundy wrote of: aches and pains, forgetfulness, etc. In fact, I don’t take any prescription medicines and plan on living past 100, so please judge each person individually.

As to Sen. McCain’s being near the bottom of his class at the Naval Academy (50 years ago), you can also call Bill Gates a Harvard dropout! Look where both men have risen to today.
