J. Patrick Coolican’s piece this weekend on the attorney general

As soon as I read the quote in my colleague J. PatrickCoolican’s piece this weekend on the attorney general, I knew it would be a launching pad for speculation. Coolican wanted to know if consultant Sig Rogich would support a Catherine Cortez Masto gubernatorial bid. “I can’t speculate because we don’t know what she’s going to do,” Rogich said. Now I am sure Rogich did not mean it to appear as if he had forgotten that the man he helped elect governor, Jim Gibbons, was still, well, governor. My guess is he presumed Coolican meant only if Rogich’s man weren’t seeking reelection. But observers pounced on the remark as a signal Gibbons isn’t running. I don’t buy it: I think he’s running, and he’s the favorite. But that’s just speculation.
