Regarding the Las Vegas Sun’s excellent feature story Sunday, “Technical minds meet fine art instincts: A UNLV program grooms a new breed of engineers”:
I’m one of those sound designers who sits twiddling knobs, but I have to come up with the effects before I can twiddle. Fortunately, I have an audio engineer whom I’ve worked with for a long time, so we now pretty much understand each other’s language.
The prospect of having an engineer be able to understand an arts geek’s ideas right away is tantalizing. Mostly, we get blank stares and then someone translates.
At any rate, the feature was wonderful and enlightening and encouraging.
