Officer-involved shooting leaves one dead

Metro Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting that left one man dead after a struggle in northeastern Las Vegas at about 11:55 p.m. Sunday.

Two officers belonging to the gang enforcement unit stopped three people walking in the 3000 block of Shirebrook Drive near Cheyenne Avenue and Walnut Road, police said.

One man continued walking as officers approached and reached for his waistband, allegedly drawing a handgun, police said.

Officers grabbed the man and a round was fired from the handgun, police said. The suspect still did not cooperate with police and grabbed one of the officer's guns.

At that point, police said, one of the officers fired his weapon. The man was taken to University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. The Clark County Coroner's Office has not identified him.

Police are still investigating the shooting. Officers were wearing green fatigues with gang unit patches on the sleeves, police said.
