Suspect in police standoff identified

A suspect involved in a standoff with North Las Vegas police on Saturday has been identified as 31-year-old Daryl Wellesy.

Wellesy was placed under arrest for obstructing a police officer and violation of a temporary protective order.

Several residents in a North Las Vegas neighborhood in the 2800 block of Taylor Street had to evacuate their homes about 9:30 p.m. Police responded to a call of an armed man barricaded in a home.

Officers said when they arrived they learned Wellesy was distraught and threatened to shoot at them and burn the house down.

After negotiations failed, the North Las Vegas SWAT team was brought in and the man surrendered at 11:56 p.m., police said.
