Recycling yards raided in stolen metals probe

Authorities have raided two Las Vegas recycling yards in what Metro Police are calling a probe of the receipt and sale of stolen copper and vehicles.

Las Vegas police Officer Ramon Denby said today the owner of ABC Recycling and two employees were detained for questioning in a three-month undercover operation dubbed "Operation Boneyard." A search warrant was served by Metro Police auto/construction theft officers at 2600 Betty Lane in an industrial area of northeast Las Vegas.

Police said no one was immediately arrested after dozens of local police and federal agents with warrants swooped into the yards.

ABC Recycling officials did not immediately respond to telephone messages seeking comment.

Denby said investigators are sorting through vehicles, copper wire, zinc, aluminum and other recyclables found at the yards.

They're looking for items stolen from parks, schools and construction sites.
