Teen dies from injuries in car-bicycle collision

A 16-year-old boy has died from injuries he suffered today after being struck by a car while riding his bicycle in North Las Vegas.

The identity of the teenager will be released by the Clark County coroner's office, said Mark Hoyt, spokesman for the North Las Vegas Police Department.

The victim was taken from Alexander Road and Coleman Street to University Medical Center where he died.

Police investigators, using evidence at the scene and eyewitness accounts, said the teen was riding his bicycle about 12:30 p.m. today close to the curb when the driver of a silver Honda Civic pulled to the right and hit him from behind.

The teen landed onto the hood of the car, hitting his head on the windshield, police said. He was carried another 40 feet on the car's hood before falling into the street.

The driver has agreed to a blood test, police said. The accident is still under investigation, but the driver could face a misdemeansor or felony charge once forensic tests are completed, police said.

The teen was not wearing a helmet, which might have helped him survive the crash, police said.
