Lend-a-Hand in need of volunteers

The Lend-a-Hand program is in need of volunteers for in home senior services.

Services include companionship, light cooking, light housekeeping, arranging appointments, walking or exercise, opening mail, simple home upkeep and repair or respite care while a usual caregiver is off for personal or business time.

Volunteer schedules and assignments are very flexible. To volunteer or find out more information call, 293-2691.

Art center to offer acting classes

The Art Center in ABC Park will offer acting classes for adults, teens and children starting in September.

Classes will be taught by professional actor Art Lynch at the Boulder City Arts Center. Classes will focus on skills for professional and personal development in theater, film, commercial production, industrial video, voice-over and multimedia.

Police recruiting for Citizens Academy

The Boulder City Police Department will begin its 10-week Citizens Academy Sept. 15.

The course will meet every Monday at 7 p.m. for three hours. The program this year will also include two Saturday courses, one at the police shooting range and one at the police driving course. Also new this year, the group will meet at the Clark County coroners office in Las Vegas on Oct. 28 for a presentation.

The academy is free for Boulder City residents 18 and older and there are no limits or physical requirements.

Applications will be accepted through Sept. 1 and class size is limited.

Applications are available in the lobby of the Police Department, 1005 Arizona St., on the website, www.bcnv.org, or by calling lead dispatcher Tina Ransom, 293-9258.

Tiny Tots enrolling children for classes

The Tiny Tots program, for children ages 3 through 5, is accepting registration for classes that begin Oct. 22.

Classes, which are full for September, will focus on the enrichment of children’s lives.

A birth certificate and first month’s fee are required at registration. Classes take place in the Tiny Tot’s room of the Parks and Recreation Building, 900 Arizona St. Spaces are limited.

Classes for 3- and 4-year-olds will be offered Tuesday and Thursday, 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. or 12 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Classes for 4- and 5-year-olds will be offered Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. or 12 noon to 2:30 p.m.

Donations sought for annual Wurstfest

The Boulder City Sunrise Rotary Club is requesting items for the 2008 Wurstfest Auction.

The auction will be held Sept. 27 and proceeds will be used for the all-night senior party hosted by Sunrise Rotary Club for Boulder City graduating seniors.

Typical auction items include weekend get-aways, show tickets, boats, art work and other items of special value.

All donations are tax deductible and advertising is available for organizations or individuals wishing to make a donation.
